Self-care Isn't Selfish!
For a lot of Mothers, myself included, self-care seems like the least important thing to be doing. The thought of sitting down and doing absolutely nothing, jumping into bed with your favourite book, or spending two hours watching that Netflix show you’ve wanted to see for weeks, seems like something we definitely shouldn’t be doing when there’s clothes to wash, toys to put away, floors to hoover and mop, and a whole house to manage. But sometimes we need to take that time out for ourselves.
To be the best version of ourselves, we need to let ourselves rest and recharge. I often stress myself out completely by thinking about every single housework chore that absolutely needs to be done, sometimes to the point of exhaustion. Between stressing over housework and actually doing the housework, I’m absolutely worn out!
So I’ve recently decided to stop the way I’m doing things because if I want them to improve, I need to change them. I’ve written out a whole new housework routine, and I’ve made myself make time for self-care too!
We all need to practice self-care, to be able to take time for ourselves in order to survive. My all-time favourite self-care activity is running a big bubble bath and just laying there for half an hour or so, soaking in the bubbles and the quiet! Or jumping into bed with one of my books and shutting everything else off.
I’m a mother to 4 children, my life is busy and hectic, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My lifestyle has made me rethink self-care and after years of thinking I should be doing something more 'productive', I've finally realize that self-care is not selfish.
Letting ourselves recharge is productive--we need to look after ourselves in order to look after our children.
Take care of yourself!
