Stretch. We Are Made for More. Period.
Over the last two decades, living well daily has become the theme of my existence. I believe that not only are we “better together” (my mantra in life), but we are also made for more. Made for more means that we don’t settle for even the best version of ourselves or our lives, but search beyond that… for more. Our potential is limitless. Our world – and sometimes our physical bodies – can create limits.
This has played out immensely parenting a child on the sensory spectrum. Sensory processing disorder is a challenging walk. For those who haven’t heard of it, I say this: imagine you can’t feel your arms or legs without pressing into something or someone; imagine that for some kids gentle touch feels like someone just hit them with a baseball bat; or the sound of a whisper enters into your world at the decibel of a train whistle. This experience of life can absolutelyfeellimiting, both for a parent and a child. It has also taught me we decide what our limits are; how hard we will push to succeed; and whether we will reach beyond perceived limitations into all that life has to offer.
Daily, my daughter breaks through walls. And as a woman, mother, sister, daughter, and friend, it inspires and encourages me to do the same. Our potential in every circumstance is absolutelylimitless. Today, I saw this first hand as my Wild one – my miracle girl – showed up Brave and Bold in the midst of an event and experience that would have previously caused her great overwhelm (a fire drill at school). She hasn’t seen what you and I have seen, she hasn’t failed yet, and because of that stretches for the more we shy away from.
Will you continue to shy away from it? I know that just living with this child pushes me to my very edge almost daily. And in moving toward the more, my life continues to become better, brighter, and more full of joy.
My wish is for you to experience the same.
Stretch. Go for more. Break out of the box. It’s what we’re made for.
